Primarily SSATB with prominent bass splits, Lux Aeterna was commissioned by Dr. Robert Natter for the Gettysburg College Choir’s Spring 2018 Tour, titled “Transitions”. The piece was to highlight the dark as it transitions to light. In the Fall of 2017, Dr. Natter approached me about writing a piece for their upcoming tour, mere months after the tragic death of a beloved classmate and friend, Zachary J. Misleh. It was only fitting to use this piece in his memory. Zach was a much-loved DeMatha alumnus (‘16), a fellow musician, and one of the kindest, most gentle hearts one could meet. This piece is dedicated to the entire DeMatha community, to Zach’s friends, and most especially to the Misleh family. Rest in peace, Zach.
